IBM BookManager Library Reader for Windows

Access, Configuration, and Getting Started

Access

Currently, in order to access IBM BookManager, you must have Novell’s Client software installed on your computer for logging in to the Network. In Windows 2000, you can verify this by right clicking on your desktop icon My Network Places where you should see “N Netware Login” in the drop down menu. If Novell is not installed on your PC, for assistance in installing the Novell Client software, contact Perry Newman at 974-7404 or mailto:PNEWMAN@UTK.EDU.

Perform the following steps to gain access to the IBM BookManager Library Reader application and the BookManager books repository on the UTK_CNS NetWare File Server.

· Right click on your desktop icon My Computer.

· From the pull down menu, left click on Map Network Drive (the pop up window in the next Example will be displayed).

· In the Drive box window, left click on the scroll down button. From the drop down window, left click on any currently unmapped drive letter of your choice, for example (L:).

· In the Folder box window, type \\UTK_CNS\VOL2

· Put a check mark (left click) in the "Reconnect at Logon" box. <-- Important

You must do this in order to have the mapped disk reconnected upon reboot.

· Left click on the Finish button.

Example:

If you currently have a Novell login account established for the UTK_CNS Novell Netware server, and there are no error messages, then the newly mapped disk will automatically be connected. If not, you will be prompted to perform a Novell Netware login as in the following example where you can simply type GUEST for Username and leave Password blank and left click on OK. Example:

· Right click on your desktop icon My Computer and left click on Explore to verify that the disk letter you selected above has been successfully mapped.

In the Folders column, you should see something similar to + Vol2 on ‘Utk_cns’ (L:)

Configuration

· Right click on your desktop icon My Computer and select Explore from the menu.

• On the right panel partition, left click on Vol2 on ‘Utk_cns’ (drive:) where drive is the drive letter you chose in the Gaining Access section above.

• Left click on the IBMBK folder.

• Right click and drag/drop the “Shortcut to READIBM.EXE” file onto your desktop. It is the bottom file on the right screen partition in the following example.

• Left click on the shortcut icon READIBM that you just dropped on your desktop to start the BookManager application.

• Left click OK on the following pop up message. This message is normal until you define your bookshelf directory path.

The following empty window should now be displayed.

In that window at the top:

• Left click on Options and select Startup Defaults, which will display a pop up window with blank boxes as follows. In the first box, type in the Startup Path for Bookshelves and Books as follows, where you must specify the drive letter you previously chose in Gaining Access above.

• Left click the OK button.

On the “BookManager Library Reader for Windows – List of Bookshelves” window (still displayed):

• Left click on View and select Refresh. After a short pause you should see the list of Bookshelves as in the following example.

Getting Started

In the list of Book Shelves window title column:

• Left click on a chosen Bookshelf. A new window is opened with a list of Books in that Bookshelf.

In the list of Books window title column:

• Left click on a chosen Book. A new window is opened with the text of that book and table of contents in the right partition of the screen.

For additional HELP using IBM BookManager Library Reader for Windows:

• Left click on Help and select from the help items in the menu. For detailed information, select the User’s Guide help item.

Productivity Tip:

The following actions will save your sort preference on titles in the Bookshelf and Book windows across invocations of BookManager; even after reboot.

On the Bookshelves window:

• Click View.

• Select Sort and then select Title from the drop down menu.

• Click on Options and select Save Window from the drop down menu.
